Cooling Program Offers Unique Electric Assistance to Qualified Kentucky Households

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ/PRESS RELEASE) – Kentucky Community Action Agencies is accepting applications for the cooling component of the Spring Grant of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until June 17, 2022 or until designated funds are exhausted.

This year’s spring grant will help Kentuckians stay cool as temperatures rise. Households up to 150% of the federal poverty guidelines can receive a one-time benefit to offset home electricity costs. The amount of the benefit granted depends on the household income and the type of accommodation. Benefits are paid directly to the electricity supplier.

The Kentucky Community Action Network collectively operates outreach offices in all 120 counties of Kentucky. Qualified applicants are encouraged to contact their local community service outreach office for specific application instructions.

All applicants will be required to provide the following documents at the time of application:

  • Proof of social security number or permanent residence card (green card) for each member of the household.
  • Proof of all household income (all members) for the previous month.
  • Most recent electric bill, statement from your landlord if electricity is included in your rent, statement from the utility company if you participate in a prepaid electricity program.
  • The account number and the name on the account for the main sources of heating fuel and the electricity bill.

Community Action Kentucky administers LIHEAP in partnership with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services which receives funding as a block grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services. More information about LIHEAP and a list of local LIHEAP offices can be found on the Community Action Kentucky website at CAPKY.org.
