It’s a scary feeling to know that someone you don’t know has gained illegal access to your photos, messages and the like. Here’s what to do if your Facebook account is hacked.

STRONG POINTS

  • The only way for someone to access a Facebook account is to guess your password
  • There are different ways to know that your account has been compromised.
  • The first thing you need to do after realizing that your account has been hacked is to change your password.

Your Facebook account is your personal space which should be accessed without your permission. However, cases of hacked Facebook accounts are not uncommon. So many times you see messages from your friends that their account has been hacked. What happens when you wake up one fine day and find that your Facebook has been hacked? It’s a scary feeling to know that someone you don’t know has gained illegal access to your photos, messages and the like. But you should not lose your cool because there are ways to recover your account.

The only way someone can gain access to a Facebook account is to guess your password or use their hacking skills to get through. There are different ways to know that your account has been compromised. In Facebook’s own words, you should be alarmed if your email or password has changed, your name or date of birth has changed, friend requests have been sent to people you don’t know , messages were sent that you did not write and post or announcements were created that you did not create.

The first thing you need to do after realizing that your account has been hacked is to change your password.

– Go to “Settings and privacy”.
— Select “Password and security”
— And then click on “Change password”. Be sure to remember your old password.

On the same “Password and security” page, you can also view the list of devices you are logged in on. Click on a list titled “Where you are connected”. If you discover that there is a device that does not belong to you or a system that you have not used, you must immediately delete your account from this system.

— Click Suspicious Connection
— Select Account Secure
— Then follow the steps that Facebook will show you as you go about securing your account.

You can also get in touch with Facebook via the support page.

— Access the Password and Security page
– Click on “Get help”
— Then report that your account has been hacked.

If the hacker disconnected you from your Facebook account, go to facebook.com/hacked. You will be asked to enter your phone number which is linked to your Facebook account. If the number you enter matches your saved number, Facebook will help you regain access to your Facebook account.
