The Universal Account Number is a 12-digit code assigned by the Employees Provident Fund Organization to its provident fund account members.
Unlike the EPF Account Number and Member ID, which change when employees change jobs from one organization to another, the UAN remains unchanged.
An employer must generate a UAN number for an employee when the company has twenty or more employees.
The employee upon joining a new organization must provide their UAN to the employer.
Through UAN, EPFO members can manage their provident fund account and perform tasks such as checking EPF balance, submitting PF loan applications and making withdrawal requests online without having to need physical documents.
The UAN is usually printed on the payslip; however, if the employer has not provided you with the 12-digit code, it can be generated online.
To create his UAN during his first registration at EPFO, the employee must provide an identity document, proof of address, bank details, permanent account number (PAN), Aadhaar and the Employee State Insurance card Corporation (ESIC).
-Log in to Member e-sewa on the EPFO portal
-Click on the “Enable UAN” option available in the important links section
– Select the Aadhaar option and enter the required details to continue.
-Click the Get Authorization PIN button
-You will be redirected to a new page containing your entered information. Check the submission to avoid any errors
-Click the Accept checkbox to continue.
-Enter the OTP received on your mobile to validate your request
-Click Validate OTP and Activate UAN.
After final submission, you will receive a text message on the registered mobile number containing your UAN number and password.
Log in to your EPFO using the details and view your EPF account details. The employee can also invest in government investment programs using his UAN and his account on the EPFO portal.
