Riot Games has responded to concerns from League of Legends players about the ever-growing gameplay of the “high damage” game, admitting that a balance fix for the power leak won’t come anytime soon.
Many members of the LoL community believe that the damage of the game is too high because it gives a potential âone-shotâ to many characters. And Riot seems to agree.
YouTuber HuzzyGames was invited to a developer meeting and shared the main talking points including his take on the current overall damage, saying Riot “knows the damage is high” but is happy to keep it because “Basically, regional preferences vary a lot. They specifically said that China likes high aggressions, high damage.”
The League YouTuber added, “So in essence that’s why we have an insane amount of damage in League, and that’s why it’s not going to go away.”
League of Legends damage has been a topic of discussion in the fandom for quite some time now.
Huzzy’s account of the reunion caught fire in the League community. People were as disappointed with Riot for their decision as they were for why they had chosen her. Senior game designer Matt ‘PhRoXzOn’ Leung-Harrison has clarified the developers’ position on Reddit and confirmed that regional preferences are a regular part of internal discussions.
âWe said that some regions have certain preferences (it’s not just China for example) when it comes to damage. And that we have a lot of internal discussions about it, âhe said.
âIn this meeting, we did NOT say that the damage in League stays as it is ad infinitum. Nor whether we are happy or unhappy with the current situation. “
Huzzy’s original video of the Riot reunion appears below.
PhRoXzOn has clarified what the team is aiming for when balancing League, but explained why their current state will not change anytime soon.
âNotably, there is a lot of flow on the effects of changing damage that requires weeks or even months of follow-up work and instability,â continued PhRoXzOn. âIncluding the complete meta disruption and understanding of the game for Pro gaming, so that’s also one of the considerations.
“It wouldn’t be as easy as reducing the damage by X% and the game is fixed.”
