Riot Threatens TFT Players With Bans For Abusing Nomsy Duplicate Issue

A new bug with TFT Set 7 allows players to duplicate Nomsy through odd timings with the Trainer trait. With Riot unable to fix it, the developers are threatening players with bans if they abuse the issue.

While TFT Set 7.5 is on the way, making Nomsy its own standalone unit and retiring the Trainer trait, there’s still TFT 12.16 patch to play before that. Also in the last two weeks before Mid-Set, players can expect to see a few more Nomsys in Convergence due to an issue.

First discovered in China before hitting all servers, players can duplicate the trainer spawned unit if they perfectly bench one of their trainer units, by disabling the forward trait the fight. After the fight, a second Nomsy will appear.

This problem can be reproduced an infinite number of times —until you really run out of space on the card. It’s an all-around exploit, and players get free wins with it.

However, Riot opposes it. Lead Designer Stephen “Mortdog” Mortimer issued a stern warning to players after TFT patch 12.16 went live: Abuse the Nomsy glitch and you’ll get banned.

“As we head into the final Dragonlands patch, we are aware of a bug where it is possible to clone Nomsy. Unfortunately, we will not be able to fix it,” he says august 23. “However, be warned if you do this, your account will be subject to action.

“It’s very easy for us to detect who is doing this, and any account caught doing this will receive a 12-hour ban for the first offense. A second offense will be a a lot harsher punishment. You have been warned.”

If you see anyone abusing the bug during your final ranked climb for TFT Set 7, you can report it in the post-game screen. It’s not just a classified thing either — Riot also reviews normal TFT games.

For those worried about doing it by accident, you’ll have to do something really wacky to only do it “by accident”. There’s also a game’s amnesty, but beyond that, be careful.

The Nomsy duplication issue won’t be fixed until TFT Set 7.5 goes live on September 8, 2022, so hang in there until then.
