Imagine that you work in a company where the phone usually rings non-stop and you haven’t received a single call all day. No order arrives and your website is also down. Customers are complaining on your Facebook page and letting you know you’re losing business.
What caused the failure?
For hundreds of WOWs! telephone and internet customers, this has been their reality for two days. What is causing this failure? The company’s transition from WoW to Astound powered by RCN caused an unexpected problem in the service.
New supplier? I didn’t know they changed.
I’ve seen a lot of social media posts wondering what this change was all about. I have WOW! The Internet and the company sent an email detailing what would happen with the change.
Important information about your WOW! Account 04/13/22
Very dear customer,
We have worked hard with the WOW! team to ensure that the transition of your services to RCN goes as smoothly as possible. As promised, we have updates to share to keep you informed.
What to expect / Things to do
May 4, 2022, we will begin switching your services from WOW! at NCR. Here’s what you can expect to see and the things you will need to do from May.
- New statement: From May, you will receive your first new bill statement. It will be mailed to your home around the same time you receive your WOW! statement.
- New account number: Your new account number will appear at the top of the first page of your new statement. If you mail your payment or use your bank’s online bill payment service, you will need to update the payment information with your new account number from May.
- New payment address: Whether you send payment by post or online banking, you will need to update the payment address to RCN, PO Box 11816, Newark, NJ 07101 from May.
- Name of new beneficiary: Future payments should be done at RCN instead of WOW! from May.
- New online portal: Using your new account number and preferred email address (what you use to log in to the WOW! portal today), you will need to register for a MyAstound account from May. You’ll be able to easily manage your account, including paying your bill, setting up autopay, paperless billing, SMS alerts and more. We will send you instructions for registering after May 4th.
- New email address: As part of the transition, your current WOW! the e-mail address will be replaced by a @astound.net E-mail. Do not worry! All emails in your mailbox, all contacts and calendar entries will be copied to your new @astound.net Email account. For a limited time, you will also continue to have access to your WOW! mailbox. Additional information will be available soon on this change.
- New toll-free number: You can reach us by calling 1.800.4.ASTOUND (1.800.427.8686) from May. For now, keep calling WOW! customer service at 1.866.496.9669.
We will continue to be in touch in the coming weeks with more information. As a reminder, RCN is now Astound Broadband powered by RCN. For more details, updates and resources, be sure to visit www.astound.com/wow.
Thank you for being a valued customer. Looking forward to serving you.
You’ll see there’s no mention of a possible outage, or how to prepare your customers who rely on your website and phone to communicate with you.
Businesses and customers are not satisfied
Personally, I encountered this problem at Showplace East on Thursday. Luckily we purchased tickets online earlier in the week. But we had to look for an ATM as the concessions were cash only and you can’t watch a movie without popcorn.
