VALORANTS Redditors are trying to solve the smurf problem by suggesting adding SMS verification to accounts for competitive play.
Riot Games tried to combat its smurf issues by VALORANTS over the years with different solutions. They adjusted wins and losses by 5 stacks while requiring new accounts to reach level 20 before they can play competitively. Even still, issues with smurfs or people deliberately trying to run games to get a certain rank are still rampant in VALORANTS.
Redditors have gathered to suggest another action Riot Games can take to help the competitive scale in VALORANTS by adding SMS verification. The verification process would require players to attach a phone number to their account, which they should verify as their own, before playing the competition. The original poster, Insanityy7 acknowledged the problem of requiring phone numbers saying burner numbers could easily be purchased and used for multiple accounts. But, some services detect these burner numbers, which would reduce the number of burner numbers players could use.
League of Legends, another Riot Games title, requires players to complete SMS verification to enter their Clash tournaments to prevent players from using lower ranked accounts with friends. They could use a similar strategy in VALORANTS to prevent players from creating or purchasing multiple accounts and ruining the ranked experience for others. Additionally, Riot Games has teased an upcoming Clash-like game mode. VALORANTS in the future, where players might see SMS verification come into play first.
