It takes a team to handle your consumer complaints.
Caitlin Burchill is your NBC CT Responds consumer reporter and there’s a lot going on behind the scenes.
There is our diligent photographer, Steve Pancione.
And then there is our savvy consumer producer, Alyse Rzemek.
“I help a lot of viewers with a lot of different things,” said Rzemek, who has held the position for three years now.
She is your first point of contact when submitting a consumer complaint to NBC CT Responds.
She hears from you whether you feel wronged, misled, whatever the case.
“From home repairs to Lyft, to getting a refund from Amazon, to car repairs, I mean, you name it,” she said.
Not only does Rzemek do her best to help, but she also compares issues with producers from other NBC Responds teams.
Currently, they have discovered that third-party banking platforms are worrying many viewers.
“I mean, they’re all great and practical, don’t get me wrong,” Rzemek said. “But one wrong number or number or name, and your money is gone and that’s something I think people don’t realize.”
And Rzemek said scammers also jump on abusing these apps.
“Be skeptical when someone calls you saying, ‘Oh, your account has been hacked. Give me your account number. If your accounts have been hacked, they should already know your number,’ she said .
One of her favorite resolutions she’s contributed to lately: helping a widow in Connecticut get back the airline miles that were in her late husband’s name.
Points were valued at over $5,600 for flights.
Redding residents planned to use them for a big family trip before he passed away.
So now “his family wanted to go spread his ashes and do something to commemorate the husband,” Rzemek said.
When the client felt like she was getting nowhere with the company, we stepped in to help.
“They gave him points. She was delighted. His family was thrilled,” Rzemek said.
NBC CT Responds cannot guarantee that we will get results, but we do promise to respond to your request,
“It’s not all going to be a slam dunk. Not everything will be easy, but we will try to do our best to help,” Rzemek said. “At the end of the day, we’re trying to give our viewers the tools they need to defend themselves.”
